       Regular meetings of The Society are open to the public and are held at 7:00 PM on the 2nd Thursday of the month from       
    Sept. thru Dec. & from March thru June.  Meetings will be held  at the North High Center, 1487 North High St., Rt. 62.

                                                                   The 2012 SOGS Programs

     March 8, 2012 -  "The Jacob Hiestand Family" and "Morgan Is Coming!  Confederate Raiders in the Heartland of
     Kentucky."
 Betty Jane (Mitchell) Gorin-Smith (daughter of David Hiestand Mitchell), a native of Taylor County,
      Kentucky and a 3rd great granddaughter of Jacob Hiestand (1784-1848) will share her two books.  In 1969 she first
     visited the stone house on Old Greenburg Road near Campbellsville, Taylor C
ounty, Kentucky which was built by
     Jacob Hiestand in 1823.  She was a key leader in the preservation of the Jacob Hiestand House.  She is a 4th great
     granddaughter of Jacob Hiestand (1750-1824) who settled in Brush Creek Township, Highland County and plated
     the Village of Sinking Spring.

  April 12, 2012 - "Care and Identification of Family Photographs"  Gilbert Gonzales, Head of Photographic
     Resources for the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center, will be the instructor for this workshop.  Gonzales,
     who is a professional photographer and student of photographic history, provides attendees with hands-on
     experience in identification of 19th and 20th century images.  He describes the various photographic processes
     used in early photography.  Topics related to photo preservation and scanning also are part of the presentation.

    
May 12, 2012 - "The Story of St. Mary's Episcopal Church"  John M. Glaze has helped to author this book.  
     The presentation will be held at the historic Episcopal Church, 234 N. High St., Hillsboro and will include a
     tour following the presentation.

June 14, 2012 - First and Second Family Banquet, 6:00 p.m. at the Ponderosa Banquet Facility, Hillsboro,
     Ohio.  Reservation information will be included in your Summer Issue of
Roots & Shoots.  All First and Second
     Family applications must be turned-in by April 30, 2012.

This will be the 20th anniversary for First Families.  We encourage First Family members to
       attend this special celebration.
